About Banpu Public Company Limited
Banpu Public Company Limited is a diversified energy company engaged primarily in coal mining and power generation. In Thailand, it holds a 50% interest in a 1,434 MW coal-fired power plant located in the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, Rayong Province. Its U.S. presence includes full ownership of the 768 MW Temple 1 gas-fired power plant in Texas. The company's coal mining operations span several countries: it manages five mines in Kalimantan, Indonesia (Indominco, Jorong, Kitadin-Embalut, Trubaindo, and Bharinto), which produce bituminous and sub-bituminous thermal coals. In China, Banpu operates the Gaohe mine in Shanxi Province and the Hebi mine in Henan Province, in addition to managing three coal-fired combined heat and power plants with a total capacity of 539 megawatts. It also owns various coal mines across New South Wales, Australia, and is involved in a coal project in Mongolia. Beyond coal, Banpu's energy portfolio includes thermal power plants in Lao PDR, a wind farm in Vietnam, and solar farms in Japan. The company has expanded into modern energy solutions, offering solar rooftop installations for industrial and large commercial clients, energy storage systems, electric vehicle and fleet management services, customized energy management consultation, and developing a broader renewable energy ecosystem. Its wide array of business activities further encompasses power and steam production, purchasing, and trading; provident fund management; solar power generation; logistics; sales and marketing; natural gas operations; strategic investments in power and renewable energy; research and development; coal mining and trading; business consultancy; and fuel trading. Founded in 1983 and based in Bangkok, Thailand, the company changed its name from Ban Pu Coal Company Limited to Banpu Public Company Limited in July 1993.
