SpartanNash Company operates as a comprehensive food enterprise, engaged in both the wholesale distribution and direct retail of a wide array of food and general merchandise. The firm structures its activities across three primary divisions: Food Distribution, Military Sales, and Retail Operations. The Food Distribution segment acts as a key supplier, offering an extensive inventory of approximately 65,000 distinct products. This broad selection encompasses everyday essentials like dry groceries, fresh produce, dairy items, meats, baked goods, frozen foods, and seafood, as well as specialty goods such as delicatessen items, floral products, and general merchandise. The segment also distributes beverages, tobacco, health and beauty care products, and pharmacy supplies. Its clientele is diverse, including independent and national retailers, foodservice distributors, e-commerce platforms, and SpartanNash's own corporate stores. Beyond product supply, this division also provides various value-added services to its retail partners. Through its Military segment, SpartanNash is responsible for the provision and distribution of groceries to 160 military commissaries and roughly 400 exchange stores. This segment boasts an international footprint, serving locations across 39 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and overseas territories such as Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Djibouti. The company's Retail segment oversees a portfolio of 145 corporate-owned grocery stores and 36 integrated fuel centers. These retail outlets operate under several recognized banners, including Family Fare, Martin's Super Markets, D&W Fresh Market, VG's Grocery, and Dan's Supermarket. In addition, SpartanNash Company develops and markets its own private label product lines, most notably under the "Our Family" brand name. Founded in 1917, the company initially traded as Spartan Stores, Inc. before rebranding to SpartanNash Company in November 2013. Its corporate headquarters are located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
