Its business is structured into three main divisions: Transmission Services, Telecom Services, and Consultancy Services. By March 31, 2022, the company managed a vast infrastructure, including 172,437 circuit kilometers of transmission lines and 265 substations, which collectively provided a significant transformation capacity of 474,457 megavolt amperes. Beyond its core transmission activities, Power Grid delivers comprehensive advisory services. These encompass power system design, techno-economic viability assessments, environmental and social impact evaluations, detailed engineering, procurement support, project management, construction supervision, and asset management. Its consultancy arm also offers specialized assistance like owner and lender engineering, development of grid codes and tariff frameworks, legal and technical guidance, market analysis, and support for renewable energy certificate mechanisms. These services are provided to a wide range of clients, including private enterprises, public utilities, governmental bodies, and international financial institutions, spanning countries such as Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Kenya, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. Furthermore, under its POWERTEL brand, the company operates an overhead optical fiber network for telecommunications, integrating optical ground wire technology onto its power transmission lines. It also maintains electric vehicle charging stations. Established in 1989, the company was originally named National Power Transmission Corporation Limited before adopting its current identity, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, in October 1992. Its main offices are situated in Gurugram, India.
